When I sold the watch that my dad gave to me
He was mad as hell when I told him I hocked it
Said your grandpa saved up for years, he got it

I was tore up with regret
He sat me down cracked a beer and said
It’s worth more to me than the price he paid
Ain’t for sale, no cash or trade

Gotta’ make a couple mistakes to learn

Different town, different state
Hit up a pawn shop the other day
Wouldn’t you know what I saw beneath that glass
Knew that face, that leather band
Same initials on the back
Offered double what he asked
He said son just gimme’ half
But I learned from my old man
