Four changes of clothes, a laptop, and an acoustic guitar – everything James packed for his winter in Mexico, his subsequent spring in Memphis and New Orleans, and his new life in New York City. Stepping off the Greyhound bus at Penn Station on May 31st of 2013 and taking the Bronx bound 1 train to crash on a stranger’s couch, even this felt like a lot to carry.
