You never know until its hits you that the golden age is now
Whatever after may be stellar but it ain’t real anyhow

All the cards are on the table and the wise ones cut the loss

I have a day job that I love except the days I don’t
And every time I think I will leave it turns out that I won’t
When the well dressed boys downtown tried sell whole thing short
The other shoe just came untied slipped off and hit the floor

It could be better could be worse
Could be blessed could be cursed
But it’s sweet as pie not to be in charge
Living medium beats the hell out of living large

My apartment is the size of a Taco Bell Express
And the suit that’s on my shoulders well it couldn’t cost much less
Some girls like a man with fame, some prefer he just look great
I am unknown, cheap, and free, let the record clearly state

It could be better could be worse
Could be chorus could be verse
Real glad the smallest fees are charged
To guys like me living medium instead of large

Some kid in Tulsa will be moving here next week
And when I pass him on the early morning street
Hope I remember to show a little love
Toward the large in charge medium above
