Leave The Rest

Upon the Blue Ridge Mountains there I take my stand
A rifle on my shoulder cherry blossom in my hand
You can’t put a price tag on another lesson learned
Or the sense of solace when you watch the embers burn
I shake the dust off as the sun begins to fade
And count my blessings just to live another day
Been ‘round in circles like a compass under ground
Turns out the simple life was just waiting to be found
I guess you could say it’s for the best
Take what you want and leave the rest
Seems like a life time since I left it all behind
The concrete shadows don’t look nothing like these pines
So many faces like the pages of a book
I left a piece of me with every step I took
I shake the dust off as the sun begins to fade
And count my blessings just to live another day
Been ‘round in circles like a compass under ground
Turns out the simple life was just waiting to be found
I guess you could say it’s for the best
Take what you want and leave the rest
Don’t miss the dirty streets or crazy crowded bars
Trade all those memories for this canopy of stars
I had all these questions a long, long time ago
But maybe I don’t need to know
