I look just like my dad, same hair and pale gray eyes
But when I act like mama well it ain’t no big surprise
My younger years were filled up with kitchen table lessons
Like please n thanks n don’t complain n always count your blessings

Followed in her footsteps when I got a part time job
A buck means more when you earn it with a dustpan and a mop
Sure some nights I cry but man she did that too
Maybe there were some things I was always gonna do

I believe no one’s perfect
And when we make mistakes the world keeps turning
If there’s some kinda’ master plan for how we outta live
Had mine passed down to me just like mama did

No one holds a grudge like me I learned it from the best
Still each Sunday morning I kneel and I confess
Didn’t love my neighbor or I hung up on a friend
Or I said a few four letter words other than amen

I believe no one’s perfect
When we make mistakes the world keeps turnin’
If there’s some kinda’ master plan for how we outta live
Had mine passed down to me just like mama did

Married young and raised a son and I taught him right from wrong
How to laugh and love and live even when I’m gone
Prayer reaches where we can’t so lift one to the sky
Oh just like mama did when grandma said goodbye
