I was broken down
I was fallen on my knees
Full of desperation
Defeat and disbelief

Had no trust to speak of
Couldn’t find my faith
Until you raised the good book
And washed my fear away

You took me in when I had nowhere else to go
Gave me shelter, gave me comfort, gave me hope
Like the love we read about that doesn’t have a price
Never mind the pages, you brought those words to life

Does it ever end
The need to pray
Will there be a moment
Our souls are finally saved

If you taught me one thing
Over all the rest
It’s by grace alone we’re saved
And we are blessed

So the next time I meet anyone
Who’s havin’ trouble hangin’ on
I’ll know exactly what to do

Rememberin’ how lost I was
Think about that heavy cross
And treat ‘em like I would if I were you
