Dog Tags And A Wedding Ring

Wore a crisp new uniform on the day she took my hand
Heard the angels overhead as we’re dancin’ our first dance
Two weeks later the Sunday paper brought my bride to tears
Worried she’ll be waitin’ by the mailbox four more years
Dog tags and a wedding ring, how’d it come to this
Hard to do the right thing when you don’t know what that is
Did my best couldn’t fix the rest hope the family understands
Either way I’m learnin’ what it means to be a man
Same old movie in my head every summer me and her
Talkin’ names like James if it’s a boy or Lisa for a girl
God knows I’d do anything for the ones that I hold dear
Makes it pretty tough to choose where to spend the next four years
Dog tags and a wedding ring, how’d it come to this
Hard to do the right thing when you don’t know what that is
Did my best couldn’t fix the rest hope the family understands
Either way I’m learnin’ what it means to be a man
Tunin’ out the choppers and squinting through the dust
Opened up an envelope from a place I wish I was
Every time I read those words a tear rolls down my face
Loves me and she’s proud as hell P.S. little Lisa’s on the way
