Ye Olde Man & Scythe
One unforgettable Christmas, James traveled through Wales, England, and Ireland with a backpack full of clothes and a cellular phone in airplane mode. He borrowed a guitar everywhere he went, and sang in a number of towns from Flint to Chester to Dublin. One especially meaningful experience was singing at one of the oldest bars in England: Ye Olde Man & Scythe, in Bolton. It was built in 1251, almost 800 years before James strummed Sarah Grundy’s guitar and Joel Turner snapped some photos.
